InuYasha begins with the half demon stealing the Jewel of Four Souls so he can increase his powers and turn himself into a full demon when the protector Kikyo shoots him with an arrow that seals him to a sacred tree but after being mortally wounded, Kikyo tells her younger sister, Kaede, to burn the jewel with her body to prevent it from falling into the wrong hands. In modern Tokyo, a girl named Kagome Higurashi who is Kikyo reincarnated steps into a family shrine and a demon pulls her into the past where she discovers InuYasha. When it attacks again, Kagome is forced to release InuYasha from the enchantment so he can kill the demon. After winning, InuYasha tries to take the jewel from Kagome and in order to thwart him, Kaede appears and places magical beads around his neck so he can be subdued by Kagome. The jewel attracts more demons, and in battle is shattered into numerous shards that spread across Japan and the quest to the restore the jewel begins.
