The Irish Broad Sword was one of the weapons used during the Irish Civil War (June 28, 1922 – May 24, 1923) a conflict between supporters and opponents of the Anglo-Irish Treaty which established the Irish Free State, precursor of today's Republic of Ireland. Opponents of the treaty objected that it retained constitutional links between the United Kingdom and Ireland and that the six counties of Northern Ireland would not be included in the Free State. The Civil War cost the lives of more than had died in the War of Independence that preceded it and left Irish society deeply divided. Its influence in Irish politics remains evident today.

Our version of the Irish Broad Sword for sale has a full tang design with an overall length of 42 inches and a 35 inch hand polished stainless steel blade. The full metal cast and mounted hilt is accented with a leather wrap and contains a riveted tang for safety and it is accompanied with a genuine leather sheath.
