The Great Secret of the Martial Arts is how to build Secret Chi Energy. While some fighting disciplines are more concerned with how to hurt people, the superior martial artist is always concerned with how to create chi energy. This is the arena of Tai Chi, Pa Kua, Aikido, and arts of that type.
To really make any progress in this matter one needs to understand several items which don't always appear be martial arts related. These things are essential to the human being, and critical to understand the real mysteries of life. Thus, analyze my words carefully, for the real truth is before you.
One, you are unique, a point of perception in the universe. Many people think they are flesh bodies, but this isn't true. A body is a vehicle for moving around on the face of the planet, and that's all.
Two, the thrust of the human being is to bring order out of chaos. This is a desire for structure which pushes the human experience. Indeed, one's very survival hinges upon ones ability to bring order out of chaos.
Three, the universe is a motor. This means that everything has two sides, and if you want to make the universe work, and this means if you want to generate and use chi energy, you need to understand how to make the two sides (of anything) work.
Four, the martial arts is the best discipline if you wish to learn how to make a motor do what it is supposed to do. This is because one learns first for the smaller universe of the body, and then those teachings can be applied to the rest of life. Unfortunately, this is not known by most people.
Five, you're going to have to discover the martial science which teaches with these points in mind. This is the most difficult of all the steps, for the martial arts, being a path of knowledge, have been mixed up and compacted by an endless variety of people with vested interest, or, sad to say, people who are just mean. Still, there is a way to resolve the chaos, discover the science, and express your true potential.
These five steps are the martial discipline, and they are yet more than martial arts. For the goal of martial arts is merely to open the door to the realization of your true potential, of finding the key to this secret chi energy will lead you past the door, into a realm hitherto not accessible to people. Thus, whether Kung Fu or Taekwondo, whether even MMA or Silat, the chi mystery will fall, and the universe will do as you bid.
This remark, that I am trying to learn Martial Arts as slowly as I possibly can, actually comes from 1967-1968. I was in a Chinese Kenpo Karate school at the time. Which self defense school I was in doesn't matter, however, as, I found 'slow learning' applied to every martial art in existence.
That doesn't mean I wasn't learning and having an incredibly good time. Heck, Martial Arts brought meaning to life, and the rite of passage is not equaled in other method in existence. But, I was learning oh...so...very...slowly.
The process of learning slowly was described to me as being on a plateau. I would earn a belt, be given new material, and then study that new material for half a year, and be bored with that new material after the first month. The instructors knew what I was going through, and justified it by giving it the label plateau, and telling me it was part of the learning method.
Somebody shows me a move, I practice it a dozen times, and then I can do it. I don't have to think about it, and don't really understand why I am supposed to practice something I know. And pretty much everybody is like this.
Intuitive learning is the method by which a human being learns, and human beings are the fastest learners in the universe. Yet they are asked to memorize random techniques and tricks, and then draw connections that don't, for the most part, exist. No wonder learning is has become arduous; no wonder people quit.
Think of it this way: you are asked to memorize an algebra sequence, a trigonometry formula, learn negative addition, and then you call yourself a mathematician. Doesn't look too smart, does it? Yet that is the way the martial arts are given to people.
Well, of course, they originate in nations which did not have logic, let alone broad public education, let alone an interest in the latest and greatest modern method for learning. Doesn't mean their arts aren't great, they can be phenomenal, but they are slow. The method used to teach is just slow, you see.
There are alternatives to this random memorization of moves...if one is to be willing to admit that the old methods are...old, and that they can learn fast, and that it is okay to learn fast. We are our greatest natural resource, and it is time to undo the straps, throw away the crutches...and get the lead out. After all, you don't want to keep learning the martial arts slow style, do you?
You can get a free book on Matrixing, which is the world's only real martial arts technology, if you head to Monster Martial arts.
I watch the TV, and it is obvious that these mobsters in Tunesia and Egypt and places like that don't know any martial arts principles. I mean, I don't expect to see tournament freestyle, or an MMA ground and pound, but I don't see anything!
I don't see a dodge and quick step to the side. I don't see a block and strike...followed by a scamper to a side alley. I don't even see a roll or break fall when some poor schmuck is thrown hard on the pavement!
Now, there are three important items to remember when you get caught in a mob. If you follow these three advices you will survive the incident. The three things are easy to remember, and easy to put into action.
First, you don't want to go near a mob. When you see a bunch of people yelling and making threatening actions, find another avenue and make your way out of that part of town. At worst, and this is going to crack you up, do some yelling and shouting with them, face in the same direction, and back slowly up!
I'm not kidding! If you act like you are part of them, and simply move in the direction you want to go, without appearing to be leaving, the mob won't notice you! This is one of those slap your head stupid things that people don't think about, but really works.
Second, don't go near the cops, or whatever military bunch is trying to run things. The truth is that they don't control anything...until they start using to deadly force, and you don't want to stick around for that! So when you hear loud noises, people screaming, and see smoke filling the street, head the other way.
Now, in the case of the martial arts, remember, you are not trying to win a fight, you are trying to evade, so the best thing to do is use your feet to move sideways and parry. If you find you are moving towards someone, and they react, move in another direction. What you want to do is move so that people get in between you and that other person, because they will start fighting each other, and while they are beating on each other you can make your escape.
Look, it's nice to talk about the one punch knock out, and the man to man confrontation, but a mob is chaos, and there is often no point to the chaos. So, use your martial arts principles to stay calm, avoid and evade, and escape the situation. That's the best way to stay alive, and even to go about your business, in even the worst of circumstances.
The finest martial arts techniques I know to evade, avoid and escape, are found in Pa Kua Chang Kung Fu. Aikido is also quite excellent. You can check out home study courses in those arts by heading to Monster Martial Arts.
