Samurai Katana Swords are the widely known weapon of a weilding samurai and originated during the Muromachi period between 1392 and 1573 and worn blade up which allowed the Samurai to draw and cut their enemy during battle in a single movement.
It was not until the Edo Period around the 15th and 16th century that the were made shorter, closer to two feet in length, so that they could be worn blade facing down and accompanied with smaller swords the Wakizashi or Shoto in battle.
