Jintachi Reverse Blade Katana

At the beginning of the Kamakura Period (1185-1388) large-scale iron mining cultivated the art of swordsmithing, and these artisans were akin to priesthood. During this time period, long before it eventually evolved into the katana, the Samurai carried the Tachi or Reverse Blade Sword. It was a long, deeply curved sword worn slung from the left side, edge down and designed to first stun an opponent and then cut.
